About Sereena and Sovereign DJ Productions.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, what you do, and how you got started!

I am a full-time music producer and mix engineer. I started DJing two years ago as a way to share my music at private events, clubs, and restaurants. Since two years ago, my knowledge and love for mixing and spinning music live from the decks has grown tremendously.  I never would have thought I'd be spinning as much as I do now and I'm extremely grateful for every opportunity that has come my way!

Can you share some details about a recent event?

I recently DJ'd a wedding here in Nashville, Tennessee.  I received the lead from The Bash and sent the clients my information.  We met for coffee first to discuss details and soon after confirmed the booking.  I was honored to have DJ'd on their special day.

What is your key to closing leads?

I think this may be a simple answer but it holds true and steadfast: I always quote a fair price, regardless of how high or low the client's budget may be.  I think it's key to remain consistent and my pricing scale stays to that.  So, even if a client has an extremely high budget (which has happened before) I keep my pricing at the same rate; which can sometimes be hundreds of dollars under their specified budget.  The same goes for clients with a low budget.  I also think a quick response is key.  I've had many clients tell me they wanted to hire me because I was quick at responding. Communication is key and when I'm easy to get a hold of, it relieves worry and stress from the client, which enables them to focus more on the event itself.

What type of events are your favorite to get booked for, and why?

I think my favorite would be private small parties.  There is not as much stress involved as something extravagant like a wedding. Small parties are more relaxed, and I'm free to play the music that I think will mix well with the audience versus a planned-out playlist.

What’s your favorite genre of music to play, and how do you adapt the music to different audiences?

I love spinning house music, R&B, hip-hop, and dubstep. That being said, I don't normally spin those genres for private events.  But if you're ever out and about in Nashville, you might find me spinning that type of music on a rooftop somewhere!

What’s one song that always gets people dancing?

"Uptown Funk" by Bruno Mars. Hands down will always get people on the dance floor.
